Travel to Aswan and experience a world of wonder, of relaxation, or adventure and of fun! Aswan can be reached by air, bus, ship and even train, so make the most of your time in Egypt!

How to Travel to Aswan

Aswan may not be as popular a tourist destination as Luxor or Cairo, but it’s still one of the most popular cities in all of Africa, with just as many historical sites as it has relaxing resorts.

How can you get into Aswan and enjoy this inspiring vacation city? You will probably have to travel by plane unless you already live near Aswan to begin with. Americans and Europeans will have to travel by plane. Americans will have to leave the homeland by the closest big city whether that’s Chicago, Los Angeles or New York. Then you can fly to a major airport in Europe such as Frankfurt, Germany or Paris, France. If you already live in London then you get to arrive in beautiful Aswan much sooner.

Traveling by Train or Bus

What happens once you get out of London and into Egypt’s territory? Aswan has its own airport, and between it and Cairo, EgyptAir makes about six return flights every day. Of course, not everyone fancies traveling by plane, especially not local Egypt residents who can take a taxi or train. Egypt’s train service runs along the Nile Bank and extends all the way down to Aswan. This is a popular alternative as the best trains that travel down Railway Station Street are air-conditioned and allow travelers to see some breathtaking scenery along the way. Many would prefer taking a train instead of driving, since driving is rather hectic and more or less unnecessary.

You can also travel to Aswan by bus. You could even catch a bus from Hurghada to Aswan for less than $7 cash. However, it should be noted that buses are not always stable when it comes to scheduling. You could be delayed a few hours depending on a variety of circumstances, just as you would when riding a train.

Other Options

There are also options in taxis, old-fashioned horse carriages and even walking by foot. Some attractions (such as the Philae Temple, the Aswan High Dam or the Unfinished Obelisk) may be too massive to conquer unless you’re an experienced walker.

All in all, it looks like you have a lot of choices when you travel to Aswan.
