Tourists comment that the city lights up at dark and those sparkles are reflected in the Nile River, which makes for an amazing site. Some businesses also shines spotlights on the desert hills that lie across the Nile River, making the scene look astounding and even ominous. Despite being known as little Cairo, Minya has the reputation, at least visually speaking, of being a giant carnival. Tell el-Amarna

Land tours in Minya will probably also include the remains of Akhetaten (Tell el-Amarna), which was founded by the heretic Pharaoh Akhenaton in the 18th Dynasty. Pharaoh Akhenaton is particularly interesting as he boldly instituted the worship of a single God as the new Egyptian religion, a rather futile move, as his views were quickly erased upon his death.
