Make Plans to See Minya

On the banks of the Nile, Minya is an administrative capital and a vital link between Northern and Southern Egypt. Sometimes called "The Bride of Upper Egypt" which denotes its importance.
Minya, Egypt
Middle Egypt is an extensive region of Egypt that extends through the Nile River Valley. This region includes many urban areas including important cities like Beni Suef, Sohag, Mallawi, Asyut and Minya. Of these cities, Minya is one of the most interesting locations and well worth a visit on your guided tours throughout Middle Egypt. Minya is the capital city of the Minya Governorate in Egypt. The formal Egyptian name is Men'at Khufu.
What to See?
What is there to do in Minya, a somewhat neglected city that still has much to offer Egypt tourists who have already seen the Pyramids and Sphinx?
Minya has been called a smaller version of Cairo, in that it is heavily commercialized and caters to tourists.
What will be of interest to historians and tourists who like the grandeur of Giza and Luxor, are many small domed tombs and chapels that date back many years. Southward, you will find a mound of rubble known as the Kom el-Ahmar, or Red Hill, which is a burial place for royal family members of the ancient city of Hebenu. In case you follow Egyptian dynasties, these tombs date back to the Old Kingdom.
Other tourists speak highly of the view of Minya, including the Nile River, and the magical nightfall. Tourists comment that the city lights up at dark and those sparkles are reflected in the Nile River, which makes for an amazing site. Some businesses also shines spotlights on the desert hills that lie across the Nile River, making the scene look astounding and even ominous. Despite being known as little Cairo, Minya has the reputation, at least visually speaking, of being a giant carnival. The beautiful scenery of Minya makes it a must-see location on your Egypt luxury tours.
Tell el-Amarna
Land tours in Minya will probably also include the remains of Akhetaten (Tell el-Amarna), which was founded by the heretic Pharaoh Akhenaton in the 18th Dynasty. Pharaoh Akhenaton is particularly interesting as he boldly instituted the worship of a single God as the new Egyptian religion, a rather futile move, as his views were quickly erased upon his death.
The Aton Hotel is a nice place to stay and gives visitors a good breakfast and dinner. Budget tours to Minya are not as common as private tours. Private tours might take you for more in depth-historical touring, perhaps even a guided tour with a professional Egyptologist. Minya is one of the best stops for your Middle Egyptian tour!
