Taba, Egypt

At the northernmost tip of the Gulf of Aqaba, where Egypt borders with Israel is the busy town of Taba. This the also the end of what is called the Red Sea Riviera, which is a long stretch of the coast of the Sinai Peninsula, and the northeastern mainland shore of Egypt. The area is named this due in part to the many resorts and luxury hotels that populate the region, and because of its remarkable beauty and scenery.

This busy border crossing location is also a popular resort destination for many Egyptian and Israeli tourists. This is perhaps due to the location so convenient to residents of both countries as well as the hotels in Taba, some even containing casinos.

Scuba Diving Activities

Visitors also journey to Taba to partake of the popular diving and snorkeling trips that are provided by trained guides in the warm waters of the Red Sea. Though this region of its waters are not known for the vast coral gardens that are frequently seen farther south, the Taba waters do tend to play home to unusual numbers of fish and marine life that even shallow water snorkelers will enjoy.

Other Activities in Taba

Other activities for guests to Taba include glass bottom boat rides which enable guests to view the coral reefs and marine life of the Gulf of Aqaba. There is also windsurfing, fishing, and sailing for those interested in water sports. Camel rides on the beach and into the canyons is an option for the more daring, while quad treks can be arranged for the true daredevils in the crowd.

The beaches and waters of the Taba area are considered some of the best around, but visitors are warned of the power of the summer sun in the region and advised to take caution when sunbathing for any length of time.

The Hotels in Taba

The entire Sinai Peninsula was once a controversial piece of land that both Egypt and Israel battled over. Once Israel withdrew, after signing a peace treaty with Egypt the area came under strong development. Taba was the final location to be evacuated, and today the hotels in Taba are all relatively new, and of good quality, most three stars or higher, and offer a nice range of scenery in this unique location. Many of the hotels in Taba are resort locations with all inclusive services.

Though mid-grade hotels are available for the many hikers and backpackers that frequent the region, the majority of accommodations will be upscale or high-end locations.

Many of the hotels have excellent dining available for the guests, and the town itself, consisting of Taba and the newly developed Taba Heights offer some additional options for dining in restaurants, cafes and bars.
