Hotels in Luxor, Egypt

Looking for Hotels in Luxor? Luxor, Egypt is a premiere tourist destination in Egypt and features premiere Egypt hotels as well. From the East bank to the West bank, you'll learn what your options are here.

Premiere Tourist Destination in Southern Egypt

Luxor has been called the premiere tourist destination in southern Egypt. It not only has historical relevance, being the former capital of the Egyptian Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom, it also has plenty of sightseeing for tourists, including temples, royal tombs, massive deserts, shimmering rivers and many retail stores.

The Two Districts in Luxor

Before you plan your trip in Luxor, first familiarize yourself with the town’s districts. You can remember these districts easily, since they’re organized according to their main attractions, as well as the side of the Nile River they are on.

Remember that there is the East Bank and West Bank. The East Bank houses the Luxor Temple, the Temple of Karnak, the Museum, and various trains, hotels and restaurants. The West Bank houses much of the city’s ruins, like the Valley of Kings, the Valley of the Queens and the Western Valley ruins. It also has some hotels, though not as many accommodations as does the East Bank.

The East Bank of the Nile

The majority of visitors will be staying in Hotels in Luxor on the East bank, choosing to take a short drive to the most popular destinations. This was common knowledge, so at some point many privacy-seeking tourists thought it sounded like a great idea to start staying on the West Bank.

Predictably, in recent years there has been an increase in tourists staying at the West Bank, which is a less modern part of town but one still closer to the tourist attractions anyway.

Where should you stay? For a better variety of hotels, or for a more splurge-worthy experience, try the East Side. For budget hotels try the West.

There are many hotels in Luxor to choose from, including very cheap stays, such as camping grounds or hostels, to five star luxury hotels.

Luxury Hotels in Luxor

Of all the expensive hotels in Luxor, by far the most famous and well reviewed is the Old Winter Palace Hotel. This hotel is located on the banks of the River Nile and located south of Luxor Temple. It was first built in 1886 and then renovated in 1975, when another complex named the New Winter Palace was constructed. This complex is joined by corridors to the original Old Palace. Both palaces share gardens, pools, tennis courts, terraces and a few restaurants.

Cheaper and Midrange Hotels in Luxor

When looking for cheaper or midrange Luxor hotels remember that it saves you money to book trips in the low season, which corresponds to the summer months. You should also beware of some hotel “touts” who meet you at the station and try to set you up with a hotel of their choice. The problem is that they will try and add on a heavy commission fee to your tab.

For the best results try pre-booking your hotel in Luxor, so you can rightfully and politely decline any extra help.
