Egypt Railway Tours and Train Travel in Egypt

Egypt railway tours and train travel in Egypt is quite a nice affair. This is particularly true between Cairo and Luxor. The sleeper train between these cities is popular and traveling first class is very affordable (and recommended).
Train Travel in Egypt
Before deciding on which budget tours, private tours and desert tours you want to see on your Egypt vacation, first decide what is the best way to get around in Egypt. After you fly in (mostly likely by way of Cairo International Airport or Luxor International Airport) one of the best ways to travel is by train. It’s cheaper and less confusing than renting a car, and also less expensive than renting taxis.
The first thing to realize is that all trains in Egypt are run by the National Egyptian Railways. This is a state-owned and state-run train service. You can buy a train ticket at most major railway stations' booking offices in the country, though you may be in for a long wait.
One of the most commonly frequented stations is the Ramses Station in Cairo. This station has several booking windows that serve different classes and different destinations. Some tourists have advised that you should check with the locals (or fellow tourists) to make sure that you are in the right line for your class/group, since it may be initially confusing.
Buying Tickets
How do you buy tickets for train travel Egypt? You must pay in Egyptian currency, which is the Egyptian Pound. You can exchange American dollars for Egyptian pounds at most banks and high-priced hotels. (The one exception to this rule is the Abela Egypt sleeper, which only accepts foreign currency, whether it be dollars, euros or pounds sterling. If you want to avoid this problem then arrange to buy your tickets in advance through a travel agent.
Book First Class Tickets!
Is there any difference between First Class, Second Class and onward? First Class tickets are actually fairly cheap, though Second Class is not that far behind in terms of quality. What you should beware of is the class below Second Class, which provides some rather scary toilets and other amenities. Also keep in mind that you can upgrade yourself into an empty upper class seat if one is available, and this will definitely be worth the small fee charged.
For the best results, try to book First Class tickets, as they are inexpensive (compared to most other country’s First Class purchases) and are relatively easy to book. The only exception here is that First Class tickets do tend to sell out quickly on the busy holidays. Try to book your train travel plans in advance for less commotion.
Traveling to various day tours and guided tours is a pleasure when traveling through the National Egyptian Railways.
