Are you traveling to Egypt but wondering about how to stay connected with your friends and family while touring this ancient wonderland? This article will answer your questions.
Mobile Phones
Egypt is fairly modern with its telephone service, this includes 3 providers for GSM mobile phones. Vodafone, Etisalat, and Mobinil are these providers. The main center are in Cairo, Alexandria, Ismailia, Al Mansurah, Tanta, and Suez. You can get roaming services but also check with your own service provider first. You can also buy a tourist mobile phone just to use during your visit, this normally cost about 30 LE.
Internet Connections
Internet connections are cheap and easy to locate. The majority of cities, like Cairo, Luxor, Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, El Gouna and even the tourist sites that are smaller, like Edfu offer many small cafes with Internet available.
Normally you pay from 2 to 10 LE according to the speed and location. On top of this, more and more of the restaurants, coffee shops, hotel lobbies, and other places now offer wireless Internet service for free. Free Mobilnil or Wi-Fi can be found at today's coffee shops like the Costa Coffee and Cilantro, where you get access through a promotional card you get from a waiter and it lasts for 2 hours. At McDonald's you will also find free Wi-Fi access.
