There are many places to see in Cairo, lots of delicacies to taste, and shopping hubs to visit. We recommend that you devote a few days of stay in this bustling and chaotic modern city in order for you to truly appreciate this extremely crowded but beautiful city.

...Cairo throughout ages since the time of the Pharaohs down to the Romans and the Greeks has always been considered a powerful center of politics, and culture. Until now the imprints of these great civilizations are still evident on the many ancient sites of Cairo. The marriage of modernization and the natural pride of the citizens with their city's remarkable and colorful history has made this city a breathtaking wonder to behold.

Cairo Day Trips

There are many low-cost and great Cairo day trips. In as little as fifty dollars, for example, one can enjoy a delicious lunch while on board a Cairo Nile cruise. Clearly, this is one experience that shouldn't be missed.

Another great day tour in Cairo is the guided visit to the Pharaonic Village, a living museum where you'll see up close how the ancient Egyptians lived: their dresses, their food, their houses, and so many other faithful reproduction of their past life. While you're in the Pharaonic Village, you'll also get to enjoy the complete replica of the tomb of Tutankhamun. This is certainly a rare glimpse into the complete multi-dimensional way of life of the mode of living of the Egyptians in their glorious past.

...And if you happen to be very interested with the past struggles of the Crusaders, then the Cairo Sightseeing Tour which is a day tour to Old Cairo and its Citadel shouldn't be missed. You'll be amazed to see and touch the still standing Citadel of Salah El Din, a fortress built in the 1183 AD, by Salah El Din, or Saladin, a famous Muslim general, as a defense structure to repel the army of Crusaders.

...No trip to Cairo is finished without a proper immersion to its multitude of charming shops and stores, selling practically everything you can think of: souvenirs, jewelry, silk, rugs, herbs, spices, paper, books, and all sorts of hand-made and hard to find unique items you'll only see being sold in the Cairo markets. A tour to the medieval Khan El Khalili Bazaar is highly recommended.

...As you finish your fun day in Cairo, perhaps you can avail yourself and your companions of the traditional Egyptian boat ride at night with the Cairo Felucca Nile Cruise. A felucca is a traditional boat that fishermen of the ancient world used for their living. Now, it's main purpose is for accommodating tourists on Cairo day trips and traversing the wondrous beauty of the Nile river.

Egypt Holidays - Things to Do

There are so many things to experience on this beautiful land of pharaohs that each time you return you do and learn something different from the previous trips. Egypt has it all, the warm, sunny climate of North Africa and literally thousands of attractions.

...So what's the best place in Egypt that you can visit? That's a question that doesn't really have an exact answer because this land has many places of interest. One of the most popular holiday trips in Egypt is to Luxor, from which you can visit the Valley of The Kings along with the Karnak Temple and several other magnificent monuments and temples.

...The city of Luxor itself has its own history, during the time of the New Kingdom, it was the ancient city of Thebes, the great capital of ancient Egypt. ... Even today when you stroll around the bazaars and blend in this magnificent atmosphere you feel like you've stepped into another world. If you are only on a short visit, you can take a trip in a balloon over the Valley of Kings to get a different perspective on the amazing structures.

...The River Nile is considered one of the greatest features of Egypt. A Nile cruise is by far the best way to explore the many temples located on the banks of the Nile. It was believed that it was the world's longest river though these days many people say that it's actually the second, after the Amazon. Most of the places of interest are within easy reach of the river mainly because all of Egypt's ancient civilisations have grown up along the narrow strip of land on each side of the river.

...A city that makes exception from this rule is the city of Sharm el Sheikh which is located on the shore of the Red Sea. It is a popular resort that is a great choice for anyone who wants to go diving in Egypt, even if you are not a diver yet, the warm waters of the Red Sea are a great place to start.

...The Nile also plays a huge role in the delivery of goods across the country as long with the travel; it is like a natural made highway for the people in Egypt. So since Egypt holidays became a popular choice, Nile cruises have offered a way to enjoy the local culture and the sights.

...There are a number of ways that allow you to cruise the Nile, there are a large number of river boats that carry numerous passengers in elegance and style stopping off at each place of interest. It is a good choice to see Egypt in a comfortable manner.

...A basic Egypt holiday usually starts and ends in Cairo, also called the city of a thousand minarets. You can explore this city either when you arrive or when you leave, depending on your choice.

Egypt Holiday Packages - What to See

Being the capital of Egypt, Cairo has this essence of being a modern yet traditional city. Here you will find the precious country treasures like the mummies, jewelry, sculptures and a lot more that are housed in modernized buildings for their preservation and protection. ... There are pyramid tours where you will visit the world renowned pyramids of Cairo like the Giza Pyramids, the Step Pyramid and a lot more.

...There are also Cairo Nile cruises which allow you to explore the Nile River through wonderful cruise ships. There are religious sightseeing tours in Cairo where you will learn about the Christian, Coptic and Islamic historic sites where you get to visit the mosques, the Saladin citadel and a lot more. Cairo is surely a city of many wonders, and it will amaze you how much you can see in this place.

...Located in southern Egypt, Luxor is another splendid place with a lot to offer. It was where the ancient city of Thebes was once located, and is now becoming a popular tourist destination. Considered as the world's greatest open air museum, this is where you will see ruins of previous temples and complexes. As to this date, the most frequented sites here are the Luxor Temple, the Valley of Kings and the Valley of the Queens, the Temple of Karnak, the famous Queen Hatshepsut's Temple, the Mummification Museum and a lot more.

...One of the most interesting cities in Egypt is Alexandria, which you can also visit when you take one of the Egypt holiday packages. It was established by Alexander the Great during the 331 B.C. as a small pharaonic town. It was the capital of Egypt for centuries until 641 AD when the Muslims ruled Egypt. When taking Alexandria tours you will be able to see the location of the Lighthouse of Alexandria which was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, one of the tallest manmade structures on earth. There is also the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, the great New Library of Alexandria, and the Qaitbey Citadel.

...Standing on the east bank of the Nile River, Aswan is another place usually included in Egypt holiday packages. ... The Abu Simbel temples are two rock temples that are now part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. ... Aside from the sites, you can visit the camel market and have trips going to Aswan Dam which supplies most of Egyptís electricity as well as have Aswan excursions in one of the felucca tours to explore the Nile River.

...Egypt holiday packages are worth every penny spent and you will surely love every minute of your Egypt tour. Enjoy your time discovering the attractive hot spots in Egypt while at the same time learning about what happened before.

Luxury Nile Cruises for a Perfect Holiday

A luxury Nile cruise is a trip where you get to sail through the Nile River in a cruise ship. But why should you choose luxury Nile cruises instead of just visiting the Nile for a few hours? There are surely a lot of reasons for this but the most important one is that a cruise gives you access to the best destinations across Egypt. If it is your first time to visit Egypt a cruise is a unique way for you to explore the beauty that Egypt has to offer. Going on Nile cruises is definitely more comfortable than travelling by land where the scorching heat isn't exactly what you are looking for in an Egypt vacation. There are fewer passengers in cruise ships so these provide you a more intimate setting, as well as a better ambience for relaxation. Fine dining is not something that everybody can afford but with the luxurious Nile cruises, you will be able to enjoy the finest foods cooked by world class chefs.

...So what usually happens in luxury cruises on the Nile that make them so appealing? Depending on the cruise that you choose, there will be differences in the activities. ... In Luxor you will visit the Karnak Temples, the Luxor Temple and other tourist hot spots that are a must for every visitor.

...Once you get onboard your cruise ship in Luxor, the first stop is the West Bank of the Nile. You will encounter here the legendary Valley of the Kings and the Valley of Queens which still have their original colors and paintings. ... A full day is usually spent on the West Bank during luxury Nile cruises and then you will head to other destinations such as Edfu and Kom Ombo.

...Edfu is where the spectacular temple of Horus is located which is also known as the most well-preserved temple in the whole of Egypt. The journey will then take you to Kom Ombo where a double temple is located. Depending on your luxury cruise ship, you will either spend the night in Kom Ombo or you will continue the trip to Aswan.

...There are a lot of places to visit in Aswan and it can take more than a day for you to cover everything. There is the Philae Temple located in a small island in the Nile which is a dedication to the goddess Isis. ... You can also visit the temples of Abu Simbel which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

...As you can see, there are a lot of things to do in luxury Nile cruises.

Signs of Dehydration

Be certain to drink enough water when traveling Egypt! •	Backgammon boards and other types of inlaid works.

	•	A nice souvenir is the jewelry cartouches. These have an oval shaped top and are made from metal, they could have your name in hieroglyphics or engravings on the.

...	•	Leather goods.

	•	Perfumes are easily purchased at most of the souvenir shops. Be sure to have the clerk give you proof there is no alcohol mixed in the perfume before you buy it. It should cost about 1 to 2 Egyptian pounds per gram.

...	•	Spices are easily purchases through the various stalls at many of the Egyptian marketplaces. Spices and dried herbs usually are of very good quality, better than the ones sold in supermarkets in the West and many times cheaper. Local conditions and your own bargaining ability will determine the final cost.

You can get bottled water all over Egypt. Hayat, Baraka, and Siwas are some of the local brands, which are the same quality of the more costly imported brands of Aquafina by Pepsi, Nestle Pure Life, Dasani by Coca-Cola, and Evian. One note on Baraka though here, it is quite safe for drinking, as bottled water goes but many have reported it has an aftertaste of baking soda, this is because of the amount of minerals in it.

Many juices are available throughout Egypt some of which are: erk soos (licorice), kasab (sugar cane), sobiia (white juice), and many types of fruit juices are usually offered at the same type shop.

Karkadae is another popular juice especially at Luxor. Hibiscus tea is also drank cold or hot but drinking it cold is preferred in Eqypt. This tea can lower you blood pressure so do not over imbibe.

Because of this, Red Sea scuba diving is generally limited to a select number of diving companies, each licensed to manage the needs of the visiting divers and to ensure the protection of the flora and fauna of the waters.

What sort of creatures will Red Sea scuba diving guests see? From hammerhead sharks to eels and amazing varieties of coral, a scuba diver can expect a diverse range of conditions and inhabitants during their visit. While some of the creatures that live in the Red Sea areas can be dangerous, for the most part the experience is sure to be a safe and pleasurable one.

The Dive Sites

In addition to regularly visited dive sites, there are Red Sea scuba diving companies that can escort their clients to the many major shipwreck sites in the region, though these too can present some hazards to both divers and even experienced sailors.

Red Sea scuba diving is not limited to risky or adventurous deep sea locations however and there are some excellent opportunities for those who are novice divers or who even prefer to simply snorkel among the coral reefs, feeding bread to the many friendly fish, eels and even smaller sharks that frequently visit such spots.

Make Early Arrangements

It is important to make early arrangements with a chosen Red Sea scuba diving company, as this is the most popular activity throughout the area, and the best companies are booked well in advance. Additionally, it is a good idea to have a bit of experience before tackling the more advanced locations, and many of the Red Sea scuba diving schools are happy to help their clients obtain the proper certifications in the days before a more serious diving adventure.

The entire Red Sea Riviera region is becoming more and more popular with Egyptian natives and international tourists. The region is full of wonderful resorts and hotels, and Red Sea scuba diving is now appearing on many “must do” lists for those heading to this unique area of Egypt.

If you are interested in scuba diving then you will want to find Egypt scuba diving centers to get your adventure started.

...What are some of the most well known scuba diving centers? The Mermaid Divers in Safaga is one of the best-reviewed centers and offers experienced, guided tours into the world of scuba diving. The center offers a reception room, a classroom, a dry room, a compressor room, a workshop, a storeroom and two bathrooms. It also provides instructional material for new divers in several languages like German, English, French, Dutch, Arabic and Italian.

International Dive Masters in Safaga is another popular region and has been in business since 1995. The owner has ten years of experience working in the Red Sea and knows how to “fulfill every diver’s dream”, whether customers are new or experienced. This center offers diving from the boat and the shore, as well as night dives. They even offer free transfer from your hotel to the diver center!

The Dune Safaga is a smaller center, located in a small village on the coast of the Red Sea, and operated by a French club owner. This center offers standard equipment for both adults and children.

The Subaqua Diving Center in Quseir has 25 years of experience and many other scuba diving clubs set up elsewhere in the world. The franchise prides itself on professionalism, friendly staff and well-maintained equipment.

Other Red Sea Scuba Diving Centers

The Action Sports Diving Center in Marsa Alam specializes in welcoming new tourists to the joys of the underwater world, with its instructional scuba diving courses. This location also provides hotel accommodations for its divers. You will probably have to travel by plane unless you already live near Aswan to begin with. Americans and Europeans will have to travel by plane.

Americans will have to leave the homeland by the closest big city whether that’s Chicago, Los Angeles or New York. Then you can fly to a major airport in Europe such as Frankfurt, Germany or Paris, France. If you already live in London then you get to arrive in beautiful Aswan much sooner.

...What happens once you get out of London and into Egypt’s territory? Aswan has its own airport, and between it and Cairo, EgyptAir makes about six return flights every day. Of course, not everyone fancies traveling by plane, especially not local Egypt residents who can take a taxi or train.

Egypt’s train service runs along the Nile Bank and extends all the way down to Aswan. This is a popular alternative as the best trains that travel down Railway Station Street are air-conditioned and allow travelers to see some breathtaking scenery along the way. Many would prefer taking a train instead of driving, since driving is rather hectic and more or less unnecessary.

...You could even catch a bus from Hurghada to Aswan for less than $7 cash. However, it should be noted that buses are not always stable when it comes to scheduling. You could be delayed a few hours depending on a variety of circumstances, just as you would when riding a train.

...You could find a cruise ship ride from Hurghada to Luxor to Aswan every day of the week and for inexpensive fare. A resort community such as Sharm el-Sheikh in Sinai offers cruise tickets from the ship directly or through its travel agencies.

...There are also options in taxis, old-fashioned horse carriages and even walking by foot. Some attractions (such as the Philae Temple, the High Dam or the Unfinished Obelisk) may be too massive to conquer unless you’re an experienced walker.

All in all, it looks like you have a lot of choices when you travel to Aswan.

This museum, opened in 1975, is a beautiful building that contains a number of artifacts. The items in the museum's collection are from the pre-dynasty era all the way through to the Islamic era. You can find ritual items, funerary items, statues, jewelry, chariots, weapons, and much more.

You can even learn all about mummification in the museum. You can see a number of sarcophagi, including those used for humans as well as those used for cats. You will also see canopic jars, funerary boats, wooden amulets, and other items used in the burial and entombing processes. Some of the most interesting things you can see in the museum are a mummified cat, ram, and crocodile.

From there, your next stop will be the Luxor International Airport, as this is the main southern hub for domestic flights within Egypt. There are also direct charters available, such as from London Gatwick.

...Airfare prices are low and actual travel time is short. There are also direct charters available, such as from London, Frankfurt, Rome and Moscow.

...It’s much smaller than most airports you’ve seen, so be prepared. EgyptAir is a popular airline as it provides day trips for relatively cheap.

...Train traveling is becoming more popular as it allows people to spend less money on plane traveling but also gives them the chance to do some quality sightseeing through the windows. There are four different levels of train travel offered by Ramesses Station Cairo as well as Luxor and Aswan. Trains are air-conditioned but serve low quality snacks, so it may be best to shop beforehand. Second and third class trains are also known to run slower and are actually discouraged by the Egyptian government for tourist traveling.

Buses are another option, as buses frequently leave the Luxor Temple and travel to most major cities, including cities like Aswan and Cairo. You can even get to Sinai from a Luxor bus line that travels over the likes of the desert and the Suez Canal.

What if you want to travel around Luxor, perhaps even arrive in Luxor coming from another city in Egypt? ... Some cab hagglers can slow you down so negotiate at your own risk.

...Don’t forget the luxurious option of traveling by boat! There are many boat trips from Luxor to Aswan and back, and possibly as far up the Nile River as Abu Simbel. If you want comfort you can’t do any better than a Nile Cruise from Egypt’s two best cities. Sure, it’s slow and costs good money, but why rush off from your Luxor vacation anyway?

The yellow cabs are available by booking through their hotlines. They are air-conditioned and the drivers speak adequate English. Fees are calculated by a meter, are payable by either credit card or cash, and are not negotiable.

Due to undetermined traffic complications, bear in mind to book three hours in advance. In addition, you can find them at specific places, such as the airport, and in front of most major shopping centers and tourist sites.

...Black and White Taxis in Cairo

Probably the most common means of transportation in the city, these black and white cars are readily available at any time anywhere. So, hailing a taxi is never a problem. Once inside, name and negotiate your price (as they do NOT work by meter), and you're on your way. Most drivers do not speak English.

You can ask your hotel information or tour guide regarding fair prices that vary according to destination.

It is also common for these taxis to pick up extra passengers heading in the same direction, so do not be hesitant to refuse.

This checklist should include attractions that you want to see, activities that you enjoy, and comforts that you might want throughout your tour. Therefore, the first item on your Nile cruise checklist should be length. The length of your trip can be a large factor in what you are able to see and do on any stops throughout your cruise. In most cases, you can often choose between three, four, and seven day/night cruise lengths. Typically, the longer the cruise, the more ground tours to remote areas that will be done and the further north you will travel.

...Next on the Nile cruise checklist are accommodations. Cruise accommodations are very much like that of regular hotels. This means that the more luxurious you would like your accommodations, the more you can expect to pay, like for a luxury suite. However, you can also get very basic single-bed rooms for the budget conscious traveler or a single traveler looking to tour Egypt and meet new people.

Much like accommodations, the luxury of your ship will also be determined by how much you want to pay and what you plan for your Nile River cruise. From your traditional ships that act as floating hotels to a felucca trip that offers primitive accommodations, you can have a little adventure as well with a short trip up and down the Nile. Although fascinating, the felucca cruise is not for everyone.

Food and Entertainment

Also on your checklist for a Nile cruise vacation should be what you want for food and entertainment. Buffet options are the most popular, although there are formal, sit-down restaurants while on your cruise as well. Furthermore, you can also expect to see everything from disco to belly dancers to costume parties while on the Nile River.

The less entertaining you find these activities, the shorter you may want to plan your trip. When given the chance, though, many people find these activities to be a fun and entertaining experience. As long as you cover these basic areas on your Nile cruise checklist, you are sure to have the time of your life that is exactly as you expected.

Egypt is fairly modern with its telephone service, this includes 3 providers for GSM mobile phones. Vodafone, Etisalat, and Mobinil are these providers. The main center are in Cairo, Alexandria, Ismailia, Al Mansurah, Tanta, and Suez. You can get roaming services but also check with your own service provider first. You can also buy a tourist mobile phone just to use during your visit, this normally cost about 30 LE.

Internet Connections

Internet connections are cheap and easy to locate. The majority of cities, like Cairo, Luxor, Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, El Gouna and even the tourist sites that are smaller, like Edfu offer many small cafes with Internet available.

Normally you pay from 2 to 10 LE according to the speed and location. On top of this, more and more of the restaurants, coffee shops, hotel lobbies, and other places now offer wireless Internet service for free. Free Mobilnil or Wi-Fi can be found at today's coffee shops like the Costa Coffee and Cilantro, where you get access through a promotional card you get from a waiter and it lasts for 2 hours. At McDonald's you will also find free Wi-Fi access.

In modern restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and hotels in Alexandria, Cairo, and various tourist spots you will see a less restrictive dress code.

Social and official functions and the more upscale restaurants normally call for a more formal dress code.

At the Tourist Sites
When visiting the pyramids at Giza and other tourist sites in the hot months of summer make sure to wear tops or shirts with short sleeves, they are acceptable for the women, even more so when they are in a group. Women should have a scarf with them to cover their heads when going back and forth between sites though. It is also fine for the women to use sandals for shoes in the hot months of summer.

Women Travelling Alone
Women need to have their legs and arms covered when traveling by themselves, and the hair should be covered too so you do not get unsolicited attention. You may get enough attention just by being a foreigner, regardless what you have on, most of it will only be stares, but you may get some harassment verbally, which you need to ignore if at all possible.

Harassment

The Egyptian women are eve subjected to cat calls and sexual harassment, even if they are in a full hijab. You may not see any difference on covering up or having short sleeve on, as far as the harassment goes. But it is important how you react to the harassment. Traveling with a group helps though many times, and it is usually best just to ignore the men who are showing you attention you do not want. They are trying to get some kind of reaction from you, don't give it to them.

You want to bring materials that breathe. Since the Egyptian summer can be blazing hot, it is advisable to wear cotton. In winter, you'll appreciate having layers that can be removed during the heat of the day and put back on for the cooler evenings.

Follow the example of the locals and wear loose and flowing garments. Not only are these appropriately modest, but they are also very practical in the hot climate.

Have you ever wondered why the Bedouin wear layers of flowing robes? Why do they cover their heads and the back of their necks? Centuries of living in desert climates have taught them that loose garments keep them cooler, and layered garments allow wind to enter and circulate, creating a natural ventilation system. And, importantly, protecting your head and neck from loss of moisture helps prevent heat stroke.

Comfortable Shoes
Bring comfortable shoes. You will be doing a lot of walking, and temple floors are far from even. In summer, wear a hat to protect yourself from the glaring Egyptian sun.

One of the most popular “mainland” locations is Hurghada, and one of the most popular places to find an accommodation in the city is the Makadi Bay.

The Makadi Bay is a hotel and resort that caters specifically to those looking to enjoy everything that the Red Sea and Hurghada have to offer. They have their own diving center, which is also located along a stretch of private beach. While that may not seem significant, the increasing popularity of the entire Red Sea Riviera has created many crowded beach and diving conditions, and makes a private beach a wildly valuable asset.

Additionally, for those not interested in learning how to snorkel or scuba dive in order to marvel at the diversity of life in the waters surrounding the Makadi Bay, there are glass-bottomed boat rides that depart throughout each day.

The Makadi Bay makes many other activities available for their guests including a comprehensive spa and completely modern fitness center, bicycle and horse hire (including lessons if necessary), volleyball and football equipment, and a games room with a billiards table and electronic equipment as well.

Evenings for visitors to the Makadi Bay can include a visit to the disco or a moonlight swim in one of the outdoor pools.

Meals are available in several restaurants throughout the resort, including local seafood specialties and local cuisine at the waterfront restaurant.

The entire Red Sea Riviera is a remarkably popular destination, and most of the most popular towns are within easy driving distance from one another. This can be a real asset for those hoping to explore the different diving sites while remaining at the Makadi Bay.

The Soma Bay in Hurghada is among the best and most popular of them.

Hurghada, Egypt

Located approximately in the middle of Egypt’s “mainland” coast, Hurghada is among the most popular towns of the entire region. It has excellent shopping, nightlife and entertainment. It has many famous restaurants, including some international “chain” establishments, and the town is regularly full of snorkeling, scuba diving and windsurfing enthusiasts.

Soma Bay, Hurghada

The Soma Bay in Hurghada is one of the most popular because it is one of the most comprehensive providers of amenities and guest services. Located on its own small peninsula, it boasts some incredible diving just off shore! In the frequently crowded beaches of the Hurghada area this is a wonderful asset to guests of the hotel.

In addition to water activities however, the Soma Bay also provides its guests with many other choices as well. Currently they can play a challenging game of golf on the hotel’s private course, “The Cascades”, a championship golf course designed by Gary Player. They can use the landmark pool located in front of the equally distinctive main entrance. Guests can also work out in the modern fitness center, or take a break in the spa and wellness rooms. There are also opportunities for games, hiking, squash and fishing among many other regular activities.

The lushly landscaped grounds are also home to a large children’s playground, incredible gardens and several excellent restaurants. In fact diners have the choice of five restaurants and cafes where they can dine along the breezy waterfront or in a cozy candlelit dining room.

One of the most exciting trips to take is the Abu Simbel Nile Cruises which begin at the southernmost point in the country and finish in the ancient capital city of Luxor.

Alternately, many visitors are opting for private felucca Nile cruises that allow a sailing exploration of the Lake Nasser area as well.

Beginning in Cairo

The reason Abu Simbel Nile cruises are so comprehensive and popular is that they allow a complete experience of the southern area of Egypt’s ancient past. For example, most Abu Simbel Nile cruises will actually begin with a flight from Cairo, where visitors have been exploring the city and its surroundings for a number of days before departure. This means they will have seen the pyramids of Giza and the Egyptian Museum among many other fascinating sites and locations.

The Abu Simbel Temples

After landing in Abu Simbel travelers usually head to the enormous monument of the same name. This is actually the relocation site for the epic statues which were rescued from the flooding of Lake Nasser during the construction of the Aswan Dam.

After viewing the site, most guests aboard Abu Simbel Nile cruises will then head to their ships or boats and begin their journey across the world’s largest man made lake. This is an unpopulated region of Egypt, and the water crossing is the only manner of reaching the city of Aswan. Some Abu Simbel Nile cruises will be accompanied by expert guides and lecturers who will be able to discuss the tombs of Ramses II and his wife Nefertari, which are also located at the Abu Simbel site.

Other Sites

While crossing the lake many cruises stop to explore some of the more famous canyons (wadis) and even some of the temples outside of Aswan. Once Abu Simbel Nile cruises reach the city they will generally include some significant time ashore at the many remarkable historical sites. These include the Philae and Kalabsha temples among other places of interest.

The Luxor Area

Finally, most Abu Simbel cruises include the short trip up the Nile to Luxor (usually an overnight sailing) where more time is spent on shore exploring the incredible sites including the Valley of the Kings and the temples at Karnak and Luxor. Though not so well known, the private felucca Nile cruises allow visitors a great deal of time at each location and are frequently chosen for tours of the Abu Simbel area.

Egypt is the best and safest location in Africa to travel if you want to experience the joy of the Red Sea coast. This coast runs all the way from the Gulf of Suez to the Sudanese border.

...If you are coming from America then you have to first leave the country by way of an international airport. The most popular locations seem to be Denver, Los Angeles and Chicago, Illinois, though you find others depending on your location. Now you must travel to Egypt, probably to the Hurghada Airport, though Cairo is still the choice of many. Now you can either take another flight to a Red Sea coastal area, or travel by bus or by car.

...Traveling from anywhere in Europe to the Red Sea coast is easy. Charter flights are common and fly directly to the most popular vacation cities such as Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh and Marsa Alam. From there you travel by bus to your preferred Red Sea location.

...Most tourists prefer to call a taxi because driving on your own can be confusing and hectic. Another concern to keep in mind is if you drive through the desert, as doing this will have some special requirements, and obviously require a very reliable vehicle. ... Taxis in Egypt are also a fairly reliable means of transportation. However, it should be said that some Taxi drivers do tend to overcharge you, so negotiate carefully and always agree on price before venturing off.

If you are heading towards Suez you can call taxis or use the East Delta Bus Company from the Koulali terminal near Ramses Station. ... Buses and taxis are also available for Ain Sukhna, as are private tours by Cairo.

...Hurghada offers buses, taxis as well as Super Jets from the Ahmed Helmi terminal or from the Abdel Mounim Riyad terminal. Safaga, Al-Quseir, Berenice all offer buses and taxis, along with guided tours available from Hurghada.

...Special tours can be arranged by way of Cairo by the YMCA as well as the Coptic Patriachate. The guided tours of the Red Sea are not to be missed and can give you a whole new perspective on the Egypt you thought you knew.

Unlike a hotel, a vacation rental will allow the visitor to meet natives, sample restaurants and cafes that are popular with the “locals” and save a great deal of money on things like tips, meals and hotel expenses. One of the most popular destinations for such arrangements is Egypt, and Egypt vacation rentals can provide spectacular views and scenery as well as access to gorgeous beaches and exciting towns.

Egypt vacation rentals include city apartments, seaside villas and a host of other styles. They can offer a visitor access to almost any area, and even provide some exclusive or luxurious options.

Where to Find Rentals?

A visitor to the Cairo area can find Egypt vacation rentals in the city limits, or they can choose something outside of town. Usually this would mean a home or apartment with views of Giza, including the great pyramids and the famous Sphinx. This view alone adds tremendous value to the rental, and can save a visitor a lot of time in travel and frustration.

The Red Sea Riviera

Someone who wishes to visit the Red Sea Coast or the Sinai Peninsula could easily find many Egypt vacation rentals near the popular towns and resort areas. This too would save a great deal of expense on hotel fees, and can also provide someone with a memorable experience. This is because many of the resort areas developed around charming fishing villages and harbor towns, and “living” within the village, rather than in a formal resort or hotel, will allow the visitor to purchase foods and beverages directly from the local merchants, meet many natives and see sights that would have been missed by a resort vacationer.

Other Locations

There are many other locations along the Nile Valley where Egypt vacation rentals are available, and along the Mediterranean coast of the country is the ancient city of Alexandria. Here too there are many rentals that provide fabulous views and scenery, direct access to the city’s wonderful “Corniche” and a chance to get a real “taste” of the entire town in a way that is unique and memorable.

The Fun of Hurghada, Egypt Vacations

Over the past twenty years however, Hurghada vacations have also become popular due to the wide range of hotels and resorts being built in the area. Of course, a surge in visitation has also created a wide variety of fascinating shops, restaurants and activities in addition to the excellent scuba and snorkeling in the waters around Hurghada.

Outdoor Activities

Outdoor enthusiasts can take Hurghada vacations to enjoy riding a “quad” or ATV in the desert areas surrounding the town; they also can partake of the excellent swimming, boating and diving in the safe and sparkling waters as well.

The region is also home to the remaining Bedouin tribes, and many people make a point of visiting these friendly people and purchasing some of their beautifully made goods, or of enjoying a cup of locally brewed “chai” tea with them.

For those interested in taking desert journeys during their Hurghada vacations, the town is not far from some of the oldest monasteries in the world; most of which are open for visitation.

Scuba Diving

Hurghada vacations can also serve as a wonderful introduction to scuba diving or snorkeling, with many companies certifying novice divers or teaching them how to snorkel in the shallow waters of the many small beaches and bays. For those who have no interest in swimming with the native fish, there are popular glass-bottomed boats which allow guests to view the remarkable coral and sea life from the dry deck above.

Accommodation

Most Hurghada vacations will require local accommodation, and as stated earlier the town is amply supplied with an excellent variety for guests to choose from. The modern part of the town, called Sekalla, is where most of the newer structures are located, and many are built in an interconnected fashion that will allow a visitor to travel from one hotel or resort to another simply by passing through a lovely garden or along a well-made path.

Hurghada vacations are becoming increasingly popular with visitors from around the world; they provide a view of Egypt which is not typical of the common perception of the ancient land. This modernized town allows easy access to such places as Cairo and Luxor, but also provides opportunities unavailable elsewhere in the country.

Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt Vacations

Since the early 1980s Sharm El Sheikh vacations have become one of the most preferred choices of Egyptians and international visitors alike. This is because of the wide variety of hotels and resorts that have “sprung up” since the peace agreement, and because of the availability of excellent scuba diving and snorkeling in the region’s surrounding waters.

Outdoor Activities

Of course most Sharm El Sheikh vacations will not be strictly dedicated to time spent underwater because the town is also a world class destination for shopping, desert adventures which include camel trekking, ATV or quad-riding and exploration as well as pilgrimages to Mount Sinai and the Monastery of St. Catherine in the nearby desert. Some guests will even make the trip for the unique food and social opportunities, including the chance to eat at some American fast food chains!

Some people also take Sharm El Sheikh vacations in order to enjoy the opportunity of meeting the remaining Bedouin tribes of the area, and spend time amongst these friendly people. Generally they will make their handicrafts available for purchase, and often invite guests to take tea or a meal with them.

Many Sharm El Sheikh vacations are all about the resorts, and the area provides a nice array of accommodations, including luxury resorts that cater to every possible need, or those especially designed for families which provide a number of activities and events meant to educate, entertain and relax their guests.

Sharm Scuba Diving Vacations

For those taking Sharm El Sheikh vacations in order to enjoy the many opportunities for scuba diving there are a wide variety of professional diving outfits that will provide equipment, boats and even guides when necessary. For the most part the majority of divers in the Sharm El Sheikh area will spend their time in the Ras Mohammed National Park. This is a strongly protected wildlife area, which forbids visitors from disturbing or collecting specimens or wildlife of any kind whatsoever. This ensures that many other visitors will want to plan Sharm El Sheikh vacations and diving excursions for years to come.

What About Egypt Scuba Diving Live-Aboards?

Egypt live-aboards offer hotels, guided tours and scuba diving sports all in one. It has two major tributaries in the White Nile and Blue Nile. The White Nile starts in the Great Lakes region and goes all the way to Rwanda, flowing northward through Tanzania, Lake Victoria, Uganda and southern Sudan. The Blue Nile starts at Lake Tana in Ethiopia and flows into the Sudan from the southeast. These two major tributaries meet near Khartoum, the capital of the Sudan.

...The northern part of the river flows through desert land, from Sudan to Egypt. North of Cairo, the Nile River splits into two branches that feed into the Mediterranean Sea. These branches are called the Rosetta Branch, which is to the west, and the Damietta Branch, found on the east, which is the Nile Delta.

The Nile River touches parts of most African countries, including Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea Eritrea, and Kenya.

...The Nile River is perhaps Egypt’s most important tourist attraction and natural resource, even from ancient times. Egyptian civilization has historically depended on the Nile River for a variety of purposes including world trading and farming. Most of Egypt’s population is concentrated in areas around the Nile River, while practically all historical sites and tourist attractions of Ancient Egypt are found along the river’s banks.

...When you look for information on Cairo Nile Cruises you are probably looking for ships that sail between Cairo and Aswan. Obviously, there’s no way you could sail the entire Nile River in a comfortable time frame; in fact, most cruise ships will not even sail from Cairo to Aswan anymore.

...Nile cruises usually give passengers cabins with a view and a veranda, though there are certainly differences in quality between average cruises and top of the line Nile cruises.

With a cruise you get to bask in the sun and enjoy immense and beautiful scenes of the Nile landscape. Some cruises will even stop at destination points and conduct guided tours of monuments, tombs and other attractions.

It’s amazing to know that the Nile River is powerful enough to guide a boat down the river even if winds die down. For long voyages it is recommended that you bring a sleeping bag, as it can get very cold at night!

Come enjoy exciting Nile Cruises, one of Egypt’s finest attractions!

You can imagine yourself following the same path as Cleopatra and others. You can witness the beauty and history of Egypt from ancient times to the modern times, from ruins to modern cities.

Many of those who come to Egypt never even consider taking a trip down the Nile and spend their entire trip in the heat of the desert. A trip down the Nile promises to be a bit cooler and have more greenery as well. It is certainly a unique way to see many of the sights the country has to offer.

Get a Glimpse of Egyptian Culture

Nile River cruises often make stops along the important and historical places in Egypt that so many tourists come to see. Most of the cruise lines even offer to help set up tours with local guides so that you can get the very best tours. You can stop at Luxor and see the tomb of Nefertiti and more.

Many of the different tours also make stops at some of the different towns in Egypt, such as Aswan, Esna, and Edfu. They each offer a glimpse into today's Egyptian culture.

What to Expect from a Nile Cruise?

The cruises include meals, lodging, as well as entertainment, and because the boats are far small than the ocean going cruise ships, you don't have to worry about overcrowding. The boats usually only carry a few hundred people at most. This provides a more intimate setting that many people prefer.

You can expect great dining and luxury accommodations, and because the ship takes care of all of your needs, you will find that you have far less to worry about on your vacation. Most cruises along the Nile last 3, 5, or 7 nights, so you can choose which length best suits your vacation.

Don't pass up on the chance to see Egypt in a new and exciting way! A cruise on the beautiful Nile can provide you with everything you want out of a vacation.
